Поэтесса и переводчица. Консультант по поэзии Библиотеки Когнгресса США [Library of Congress]. Среди ее поэтических сборников наиболее известны "Север и Юг" ["North & South"] (1946) - Пулитцеровская премия [Pulitzer Prize] 1956, "Вопросы путешествий" ["Questions of travel"] (1965). В основе ее творчества - впечатления от многочисленных поездок по Южной Америке, Европе и раздумья над таинством жизни.
